The book is well organized for the teacher and well- balanced for the taught. Small chapters keep the readersвЂ™ focus better that the book clearly displays. The steps involved in the transfer of the flow of control between the author(s) and reader seems well defined through the organization of chapters and dissemination of introductory information. Complex and intricate terminologies have been avoided as far as practicable especially in the first five chapters to engage the reader and make the subject matter engrossing.ДЄ requirement for modularity is to clearly define the interfaces between modules and enable the modules to work together.

The book is consistent in its style and presentation. Connecting the chapters to practical to-do lab exercises may have made each chapter more interesting. As an introductory book, the chapters give a peripheral knowledge that the student must possess. The authors have demystified the complexity of GIS with a clarity of thought and purpose in this book. The examples cited in the chapters are aptly put and retain their logical connection even though the book was first published in 2011. The authors have written the book skillfully and retained its relevance although the world of GIS is transforming so rapidly with evolving technology and multi-disciplinary applications. It makes an interesting read and I found the contents precise and accurate. 'Essentials of Geographic Information Systems' covers almost all a beginner would like to know about GIS. The associated graphics and illustrations in the chapters are well conceived and literally say a thousand words! A good piece of work for the uninitiated as it tells a simple story of a complex subject. Each chapter starts with a вЂlearning objectiveвЂ™ and ends with a take вЂ“away summary and some simple exercises for the reader. The book has a constant flow connecting all the ten chapters succinctly. Journalism, Media Studies & Communications.I suggest you guys make a collaborative study guide through the discussion section on CCLE like my class did so you can answer the study guide questions as quickly as possible in order to have more than enough time to study for the midterm and final. He is an amazing professor who gives easy tests as long as you memorize simple and straightforward information. However, I might just be underestimating myself so just believe in yourself! Professor Gillespie is such a character! He made this class so great I actually looked forward to going to lecture, which is out of the norm for me.

I got bailed by not taking the final because I think I would have gotten a B+ on it and maybe ended with an A- instead of an A for my final grade. The lab portion of the grade is an easy A as long as you participate at least once per discussion, do the bare minimum on the group project, and you do the 2-3 worksheets assigned throughout the quarter. On the midterm, I got a 92% and the mean was 85%, so I already knew I was on track for an A. You need to memorize a sizeable amount of information, but it is pure memorization. This class is an easy A if you do your part.

So, coming from someone who is normally pretty lazy, this class was well-worth the weekly hassle and I would definitely take it again. We also were able to get 2% of extra credit in the class from doing evaluations which made me go from A- to A. It usually took me over an hour to complete despite being only 20 questions because the questions came from our online textbook and the multiple videos we had for the week.

The only tough part of the class was the weekly quiz. Our professor was very helpful too and answered emails very promptly. where she'd do a fun participation question and then get into the week's topic. Section was also pretty cool thanks to Lisa M. There was no midterm or final exam, only a final paper that ended up being made optional given the circumstances. Assignments were graded extremely fair and as long as you didn't miss any you should have been able to do extremely well in the class. The class was already supposed to be online so I am assuming that is the reason it worked out so well. (CORONA REVIEW) This class was extremely well-structured in that it had weekly discussion responses, weekly quizzes, weekly labs, and weekly discussion sections.
